This does have the makings for an epic mountain race. Surely the obvious favorites will be battling for some cash and MUT prestige (a little Skyrunning kudos to boot). Other than rumor, I was never quite sure who all was racing, but again, the favorites (most heard were running) should be enough news to project some sort of 2012 Speedgoat 50k narrative.
As for the players, Anton will most likely make me eat my words from a few weeks back. Apparently, he’s 1 or 2 in this one. And who’s going to bet against Jornet? Sounds like everyone’s flipping a coin here.
There are some Europeans, other than that Spaniard, who may have a say. Rickey Gates could be tough, too.
However, my heart’s money is on two solid mountain runners who I hope steal the show: Max King and Nick Clark.
Good luck to everyone racing this weekend, including Mr. Long who’s defending his Grand Mesa 100 title on his way back to Boulder.
Weekend wrap next week as the summer racing starts to really heat-up.
